Geographical Location:
Nagpur is in Central India, about 870 Kilometers from Mumbai on the Mumbai-Kolkata rail route. It is the Seat of the winter session of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly. It is here that Dr. B. R. Ambedkar took “diksha” in 1956 and administered the Buddhist tri-ratna to 380,000 men and women. Our Lady of Fatima Church is in Jaitala which is about 12 kilometers from the city. It is surrounded by important Landmarks: The Ambazeri Lake to the North; the C.R.P.F and S.R.P.F Camp to the South; Sonegaon Aerodrome to the East and MIDC to the west.

Social, Economic and Religious Situation:
Nagpur is a multi-religious society. There are Hindus, Muslims, Christians and Neo-Buddhists. Jaitala has population of about 29,000 people. The institute is surrounded by more than 800 families living in basties. Most of these are Neo-Buddhists.

The people of the parish are poor. Most of them are daily laborers or contract worker in factories. A few have their workshops or businesses; a few are office jobs.
